SpokeLace Build Bay locks flange math into a bench-ready wheel recipe

Match hub and rim geometry, scrub live lacing paths, and export paired spoke lengths, dish correction, and a cut sheet—before a single spoke is cut or tensioned on the stand.

Workshop brief

Flange honesty before the first cut

SpokeLace Build Bay is the interactive wheel-building studio for home mechanics, shop techs, and custom builders who refuse to trust generic calculators. Start a named wheel job with use profile, position, and brake type; pull hubs and rims from a seeded atlas or enter full custom flange and ERD numbers; then choose radial through 4-cross patterns (including valid per-side mixes) and watch driving and trailing spokes draw on a live top-down diagram. The length engine returns left/right sizes, nipple engagement, and dish offset warnings grounded in real asymmetry—not rounded folklore. Lock gauge, tension bands, and a materials cut sheet so every custom wheel leaves planning with flange honesty, tension targets, and a shareable bench card.

01 — PROFILE

Wheel Job & Use Profiles

Name the build, set road/gravel/XC/enduro/touring/cargo/track intent, front or rear, rim or disc, and drive-side bias goals that pre-suggest lacing and tension ranges.

02 — ATLAS

Hub & Rim Atlas + Custom Entry

Browse seeded hubs and rims with flange diameters, center-to-flange, hole counts, ERD, and offset—or measure your own so asymmetric and offset-drilled rims keep dish math honest.

03 — LACE

Live Lacing Pattern Studio

Pick radial to 4-cross with per-side mixes where valid; drag-scrub a metallic spoke diagram that shows driving vs trailing paths, flange sides, and crossing points—not a static PNG.

04 — LENGTHS

Spoke Length, Dish & Tension Coach

Compute paired lengths, cut rounding, nipple engagement, dish correction, and relative tension bands by gauge and use profile, with side-by-side toggles when you swap hubs or patterns.

05 — RECIPE

Build Recipe, Cut Sheet & Compare

Lock a bench card with counts per side, nipples, tape note, and assembly order; duplicate for the matching wheel; pin two hubs or rims to see length impact before you buy.

06 — FIELD

Offline Field Guide & Saved Jobs

Illustrated primers on ERD, crosses, flange specs, engagement, and stress-relief order—plus a searchable library of jobs from planning to complete recipe, all on-device by default.

Core loop on the stand

  1. Pick a wheel job and lock use profile, position, and brake type.
  2. Match hub + rim from the seeded parts atlas—or enter custom geometry.
  3. Choose a lacing pattern and visualize spoke paths on the live wheel diagram.
  4. Compute paired spoke lengths, nipple engagement, and dish correction.
  5. Lock gauge, tension bands, and a materials cut sheet before you cut or tension.
